Well, if you put it that way...
Anyways, I'm referring to Wolverine, of course. As you know, or may not know, the actual name wolverine belongs to a real animal who resembles a big weasel or an otter than a wolf but, if you've ever seen the X-Men movies, Hugh Jackman looks nothing like a weasel. In fact, this Australian hunk keeps looking better and better with each new X Men installment (this would have been the 4th movie in the great series), and is probably by far the best of the 4, or maybe 2nd to the 1st movie which came out way back in 2000
Wow, can you believe it's been 9 long years since then?? A lot has happened since like The Hulk, Watchmen, all those Spider-Man movies but X Men still rocks!! So this movie tells the story of 2 brothers who have incredible abilities, of course Logan (who later would become Wolverine) has this claws which come out whenever he becomes upset or in danger, it's like an instinctive defense mechanism which he cannot yet control. His claws however look organic as if they were of a bone-like structure, not yet the steely claws we've come to know him for in the first movies.
His older brother, however, is more like an animal, sort of like a bear clawed Sabretooth but not like the one in the first movie who was kind of comical and a little bit dumb, in my opinion. Liev Schreiber does a great job at this villain and gives us a bit of an insight as to how he became who he later was to become. In this movie though he's a lot scarier than in his later years, we see rage in his tiny eyes and his body language, whenever he is about to attack he gets on all fours and starts trotting like a bear or a wolf would. I like the way that his claws and his canine teeth were not very long and a lot more subtle than in the original X-Men movie and he's much better looking, that's for sure. However, the intensity of the character and its misdemeanor towards everybody was what made the character stand out.
Equally intense was Wolverine. Both brothers fought in every war from the Civil War to World War II and Vietnam, in every war the savage from the characters becomes more and more intense, we see a darker side we've hardly seen from Wolverine before. A more irrational time in his life when the never aging hero became a really angry person, one that would follow his brother to the end of the world, if necessary. There is a point in the movie which was pretty similar to the worst scene from Watchmen where Sabretooth is forcing his way around a Vietnamese girl (why is it that it's always the Vietnamese villagers that pay the price, how stereotypical, right?) however Wolverine, upon seeing his brother committing this terrible act reacts and pushes him away and suddenly it becomes a rivalry between the two brothers.
It is around that time that they get noticed by the corrupt government officials and wants them to become their secret weapon of mass destruction. They actually become part of this league of an equally gifted bunch of renegades that must accomplish missions together. Among the group we see a very handsome Ryan Reynolds who is looking hotter day by day as well who can maneuver the swords like noone else can, splitting bullets in mid-air and even using it as a shield, as well as a deadly weapon. Besides his abilities, he's a very likable and strange anti-hero whose origin in the actual comic books is way different than his movie portrayal (actually over at Wikipedia they explain how Deadpool came about), however we lose track of this hero until the end of the movie.
Anyhow, these elite team is hired once again to look for an African tribe and get the real source of this specific metal which would later on be used with Wolverine in a very disturbing experiment. Wolverine sees the cruelty with which his older brother is torturing these innocent men and becomes really upset at the fact that he never sign up to be a killer. Wolverine just quits cold turkey while his brother is stunned at the sight of seeing his brother "desert" him and the team.
Wolverine has had enough of this violent, vicious circle and moves out to the beautiful Canadian woods where he becomes a lumberjack (very manly, I know) and lives a much quieter life, with a beautiful brunette and in his isolated little home in the prairie. We know it won't be long before Wolverine will be pulled back for duty but it's wonderful to see how the Big Weasel can be just as gentle and loving as any other human being. He seems to be the happiest man alive, living the simple life instead of this monster that they wanted him to become. The scenery of the woods and the tranquil life is breathtaking and just the right formula for any man to recover his sanity.
This tranquility is short lived though when his brother comes in the picture, and takes something from Wolverine which he may never get back: his woman. We get to see Wolverine suffering after realizing that he may never get her back and decides to take revenge on his brother and anyone who gets in his way...
I did enjoy the whole movie from beginning to the very end, it never let me down and kept me at the edge of our seats, Dean loved it as well and I must say that I wished it was actually longer since there was so much to explore as far as characters is concerned, maybe in the DVD there will be more deleted scenes and behind the scenes or director's cut and stuff. The only scene that was a bit hard to watch was when they injected this liquid metal stuff into his system, they actually had different drills drilling hole into his body (good cause he was shirtless and had small trunks on) and they even had a drill going through his skull (aaaaaaaaahhhh) Anyhow, it was just worth it cause after the transformation he gets up and growls at the screen... all those muscles tightened... Veins pumping... I think I better stop LOL Anyways, definitely something to watch for.
There are a few twists in the movie which I shall not reveal but the movie never lets you down, kept me awake for 107 minutes which is a task in itself nowadays. Way better than Watchmen, that's for sure...
